O2R and COVID-19

Covid-19 has affected communities around the world and Rwanda is no exception. To limit the spread of the pandemic the Rwandan government has closed Churches which don’t meet covid requirements.

The government has also put in place guidelines to be followed by local communities who would like to reopen as restrictions began to be relaxed.

In the district of Nyamasheke where O2R Rwanda has its headquarters, Churches are at center of the community life. On the top of the economic effects of the COVID-19 there is a deep sense of isolation caused by the closure of churches.

Our two-fold RESPONSE

1.VIRTUAL COMMUNITIES

O2R has created online communities where people who live in various parts of Rwanda are able meet pray and connect with their brothers and sisters virtually. We make use of social media platforms such as What’s Up, Facebook, Telegram and so on by providing at least one smart phone per Church.  One of the areas where covid-19 is a big issue is with young people.  O2R has created platform just for young people, the aim is to connect young people in Rwanda with the young people in Ottawa Ontario.

2. WASHING STATIONS

With the help of the life center church in Ottawa Ontario, O2R has helped 10 churches reopen after COVID-19 pandemic. We have provided funds to build washing stations and all other necessary hygiene equipment required for the churches to be opened.

Churches that have been helped partially or fully by O2R:

  1. Busasamana

  2. Bwerankori

  3. Mahembe

  4. Kigarama

  5. Rwamatamu

6.  Birehe

7.  Nyagatare

8.  Gishyita

9.  Muramba

10.Manji
