There are many ways a believer hears from the Lord, he speaks directly in our hearts, he speaks through the preached word, he speaks through circumstances and so on. The Bible is the balance or scale that weighs all those voices to see if they truly come from the Holy Spirit. The author of Scriptures will not contradict himself. Be safe, know your Bible.
